On August 25, 2022, the SMCEC Board passed a resolution which empowered Kevin and Daniel to “grow the SMCEC and accomplish the mission of the organization by growing cooperative education and worker-owned business in North Alabama.” They both live full-time in the cabin in Guntersville, Alabama.
The Board is constituted by current and former SMCEC program participants and staff who volunteer to run the organization together.

Kevin is a Lamplight Summer co-Founder with a background in middle school social studies education. He runs Lamplight’s offseason programming and is developing the LEAD leadership program in collaboration with Caring Heart Thrift Store.

Daniel is a Lamplight Summer co-founder and former high school social studies teacher. He is a worker-owner at Ginkgo Bioworks, where he is helping build a culture where workers think and act like owners.
