• Starting in Fall 2026, Iron Hills Folk School will be a dues-paying membership organization. Members will have ownership of the organization through democratic process.

Membership includes the following benefits and expectations:

    Benefits:

    1. Free learning events (members will still pay materials fees for learning events where applicable)

    2. Priority enrollment to learning and social events (e.g., members will have the chance to register 1 week before public registration opens)

    3. The right to propose organizational policies, and vote on proposals, during membership meetings

    4. Eligibility to serve on the Organizing Committee, which handles most of the planning and logistics of the folk school.

    5. Access to members-only events

    Expectations:

    1. Labor contribution: members contribute at least 2 hours of volunteer labor per term (e.g., cleaning up before/after events, set-up and tear-down for events, etc.)

    2. Upholding the Member Code of Conduct

    3. Dues payment is up-to-date

  • Membership is $50 per term. Terms are Feb–Jun and Aug–Dec. Our events will remain open to the public, but non-members will be required to buy a ticket to attend. For some events or classes with increased materials costs, members will also have to pay an extra materials fee.

  • Since the beginning of Iron Hills, we have envisioned an organization funded and governed by its members. Individual contributions empowers members to feel ownership of the organization without dependence on external funding.

Simply put, members allow Iron Hills to facilitate togetherness through learning and play.

What To Expect

Hands on Workshops

Learn new skills and share what you have to offer, so that each of us can have a little more agency over our lives. Expect offerings such as, fermentation, mindfulness training, dance, and other crafts!

Talks and Storytelling

Sharing knowledge and stories with each other to promote thoughtful discourse is a top priority for us. We’ve hosted intergenerational storytelling, and talks about belonging, isolation, and social cohesion.

Social Events

Gathering over a meal, a holiday, or a seasonal celebration is a powerful catalyst for creating a sense of home. We believe that play is a crucial part of learning to belong together.

Self Governance

We govern ourselves. We host bi-monthly membership meetings where items are proposed to be voted on by members. This includes learning plans for each term and policies that help the organization run smoothly.

You Decide!

As a member you get to decide what events you want offered and who hosts those events.
